All about Y2

Hello from Year 2 and Miss Burn!

This is just a little look into our school day. We hope you like it!

STAR OF THE DAY

Each day we have a different member of the class who is the 'Star of the Day'. This person is able to choose any one of their classmates who has done something they feel needs rewarding, whether that be a great drawing, piece of writing or just being a kind friend on the playground.

SCIENCE AND ICT

In Science we have been learning about electricity and building circuits.

We all worked in pairs, discussing how we could make the light bulb come on. Then we did an investigation into what materials conduct electricity.

We put our findings onto Photostory 3 and made presentations about what we had learnt.

RE AND SPEAKING AND LISTENING

We have been learning about Christian celebrations in RE and decided to have our own wedding.

We went down to the Church and as you can see from our photos had a great time! 

ART, TOPIC AND LITERACY

This term we have been learning about Florence Nightingale. We have made booklets about her life, together with mono prints of her portrait.

We have also looked at William Morris designs and had a go at making our own designs using his ideas from nature.

We looked at the poem 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' by Alfred Lord Tennyson. This was great to read out loud and use as inspiration to write our own poems. We even found a website where we could hear Tennyson read out his own poem!

On the lead up to Easter we are going to be looking at our school environment, in particular the pond and the surrounding habitats.

Hopefully the sun is going to shine for us!

VISITS

We are also looking forward to a forthcoming trip to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham which is being organised for the Summer term.
