Caring for a Puppy

When a puppy is first born, they are not allowed to be taken away from their mother until they are at least 6 weeks old.

When you collect your puppy, the first thing you should do is talk to the owner you are buying your puppy off and ask them what the puppy is eating; if the puppy is having milk, where it is sleeping and other things like that.

When your new puppy first goes back to your house, be aware that the puppy isn't used to the new surroundings so allow it to explore!  Also be aware that the puppy will not be toilet trained, so lay down newspaper and keep the puppy away from anything you don't want to get wet!!!

If the puppy goes to the toilet on the paper, reward it immediately and give it some fuss to let it know that it has done the correct thing!!

As your puppy grows and becomes older, you may want to start taking it to puppy training where somebody will help you to train it at the lessons and hope that you continue the training at home.

You should start walking your dog after it has had injections, which your vet should be able to tell you more about.  When you are going to puppy training, it would be a good idea for your whole family to go because they teach you to use certain tones and manners when dealing with your puppy.  When the puppy is about 2 months old, you may think it is necessary to start feeding it more food, and you could consult your puppy trainer on this matter.

The most important thing to remember with your puppy is to make sure it is happy and having fun!!!
