Visits

Regular Educational visits, or visitors to the school, will be arranged for children throughout their time at Deddington School.

During their time in Key Stage 2 opportunities are provided for the children to spend some time away from home.  Year 6 children spend 5 days at one of Oxfordshire County Council’s Outdoor Pursuits Centre at Yenworthy in North Devon.  This visit particularly develops and extends work in Geography and Science.  It also contains a large element of "Adventurous Activities” such as Orienteering, Abseiling, Canoeing and Surfing.  Children’s social skills are also enhanced during this visit.  Opportunities to show initiative, work co-operatively as part of a team and become more independent are just some of the many advantages of participating in this visit, resulting in a marked improvement in children’s confidence and self-esteem.

In year four the children take part in a three day residential trip to Yeolbury.  This is the Scout Camp based at Boars Hill just outside Oxford. As well as being able to appreciate the scientific values of this trip, children are equipped to help prepare their food, lay the tables, serve food to each other, clear away and wash up after meals, allowing them to develop independence and interpersonal skills.  They will also be responsible for their own belongings and bed!

We expect all children to take part in these visits, which are funded through voluntary parental contributions.  Help can be provided for parents who would find the full cost difficult to pay.  Please have a confidential word with the Headteacher or Administrative Officer to get the details.
