Religious Education
The Education Reform Act (1988) makes special provision for collective worship and statutory religious education within state schools.
We follow Oxfordshire County Council’s Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, supplemented by material from the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education and QCA schemes of work.
Across the key stages the RE topics covered includes some specifically Biblical work, e.g., looking at Parables, and other more general topics e.g., “Places of Worship” and”Special Clothes”. There is a predominantly Christian emphasis in Religious Education, although several themes involve exploring other religions as well, making comparisons between them and Christianity. The RE school syllabus focuses on the three key religions of Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
